(in)tangible being 2024
Arduino nano, fake hair, buttons, conductive thread, speakers, computer monitor, Leap Motion controller, silicone objects, wires, flex sensor, you (webcam)
Touch, a crucial yet often overlooked sense, binds us to each other and helps us understand reality. (in)tangible being is an installation exploring self-conception and the blurred lines between physical and digital realms which have been blurred by our mundane encounters with digital devices. Traditional portraiture involves distinct roles for artist, subject, and viewer, but data portraits challenge this, creating new meanings and questioning who the true creator is. This work examines the intersection of human and machine, emphasizing the material origins of digital media, such as minerals from the earth and silicone used in both surgical implants and computer chips.
As audiences interact with the installation, they encounter various visual contents on the screen, allowing for exploration and play. The use of glitch and distortion removes them from reality, translating the physical self into a mirrored, intangible being. Digital media enables manipulation of our extended body, offering freedom from physical constraints and the possibility of multiple selves or new personas. With the emergence of Al, computers can mimic human behaviors, raising questions about digital media's entity, desire, and intention.
The project uses custom touch interfaces, providing a more intimate interaction than typical touchscreens and mouse clicks. The tactile feedback of silicone touch interfaces, which manipulate visuals on screen, unites the artist and tool at the point of contact with exposed wiring. This interaction asks the audience to decide where the line exists between the corporeal human body and the digital self, and whether this distinction is truthful.

TouchDesigner Experimentations
During a 50-day challenge with TouchDesigner, one hour was dedicated each day to exploring the possibilities of creating responsive visual compositions. By integrating elements such as audio input, sensors, Leap Motion controllers, and face detection, various inputs were tested to manipulate visuals in real-time, pushing the boundaries of interaction and surendipity.

SMLXL_Medium
Inspired by Michel Foucault’s Utopian Body, this project delved into the relationship between everyday objects and the human form, examining how these objects mimic or evoke the body through action or resemblance. The exploration culminated in a live audiovisual performance titled SMLXL, with a composition presented in the "Medium" section. The Purple Island by Matmos was used for the live performance. The piece incorporated a collection of images and video footage gathered over the years to depict different bodies exploring the concepts of becoming or imitating a body.

flat to form 2024
Project Link
"flat to form" is a web application developed with Three.js that transforms static images into 3D origami-inspired sculptures. Users can upload images, which are mapped onto 3D models and displayed in an interactive digital space.
3D Interaction:
Rotate and zoom to explore the 3D sculptures, with images serving as both textures and shadow-receiving planes.

Interactive Elements:
Click to make images disappear or trigger a brief glitch effect, adding surprise and depth to the experience.
Audio Integration:
Three audio tracks enhance the experience: paper folding sounds, an episode from Mr. Rogers on origami, and ambient sounds from past field recordings.
Inspiration:
Inspired by the concept of turning flat images into 3D forms, "flat to form" blends the art of origami with digital technology, offering a unique and engaging user experience.

mUNdane Day 2023
mUNdane Day is a project that transforms the ordinary into something profound, capturing the beauty of daily life in both physical and virtual spaces. The installation is a reflection on how even the most routine moments can hold deep personal significance when examined closely. Through two interconnected parts—a physical installation and a virtual space—the project invites viewers to engage with the process of capturing and materializing these fleeting moments.
Part 1: Physical Space Installation
The physical installation features a traceable surface inscribed with Base64 code, representing the transformation of digital information into something tactile. Ceramic objects, each textured with the same code, are scattered throughout the space, encouraging visitors to interact with them and feel their texture, form, and weight. These objects symbolize how everyday moments, like a daily walk, can be translated into something tangible and lasting.
The inspiration for this part of the project came from a personal realization: not every memory needs to be extraordinary to be special. After reflecting on what makes a moment worth capturing, I discovered that everyday life, in all its simplicity, holds unique value. My daily walk with my dog, Bam, became the focus. The process involved 3D scanning a walk taken on December 4th, 2023, writing a journal entry to capture the experience, and encoding the text into Base64 code. I then stamped the code onto ceramic objects, using reliefs to give them form. The physicality of these objects offers a new way to engage with a moment that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
Part 2: Virtual Space
Project Link
The virtual space serves as a "walkable" representation of this same moment, designed using A-Frame. It functions as a digital frottage—a memory recreated in a virtual realm. In this space, users can explore the moment from my journal entry, moving through an immersive digital environment that captures the intangible aspects of time and experience. This part of the project explores how we can "trace" moments that have no physical form, such as the passage of time or digital content.
The goal of mUNdane Day is to create an experience where users can view, touch, and immerse themselves in my process of capturing a moment. By contemplating the act of tracing—something possible only when there is texture, form, and weight—I sought to explore how intangible aspects of life, like digital content or the passing of time, can also be materialized.
Through the combination of physical ceramic objects and a virtual environment, mUNdane Day invites reflection on the significance of the everyday. A simple walk with my dog, encoded and brought to life in two distinct forms, serves as a reminder that even the most routine moments can carry meaning and deserve to be captured.

Add Your Human Touch 2023
Project Link
Add Your Human Touch" is a web application designed as a virtual gallery where users can interact with displayed artwork. Initially inspired by conventional Reddit art pages as a source for creative inspiration, the project shifted focus to the "ai Art" subreddit. This change not only provides a platform for inspiration but also raises critical questions about AI-generated art, including authorship, the role of human touch (whether through physical input or AI prompting), and whether digitalized human-made strokes can be considered genuine human contributions.
The design and interaction choices of the application are guided by the desire to explore playfulness and the serendipity of creativity that emerges through user interaction, inviting users to engage with and reflect on the evolving relationship between AI and human artistry.

Rotating Ice + Collective Art 2023
This installation consists of ice on a rotating platform, controlled by a ToF distance sensor, and buttons programmed with an Arduino in a 3D-printed housing that allows interaction with a p5.js sketch. Our intention was to create an interactive installation that allows users to create collective art together but has the irony of making it on an ephemeral and transparent object, which will eventually melt away. As a viewer approaches from a distance, the ice continuously rotates, generating reflections of colors in the environment and distorting the projected image. However, the ice stops when the sensor detects a viewer in front, allowing for a clearer understanding of the projected image.

bada.see
The 'bada.see' project, part of the 'bada.three.senses' series by BADA design/atelier, brings together ceramics and flowers to create a unique fusion of materials and experiences. Through focused art direction, intentional concept building, refined product design, and strategic brand development, the project was seamlessly integrated across all platforms. This included a well-crafted website and a streamlined e-commerce platform, resulting in a distinctive collection that not only showcased the synergy between ceramics and flowers but also established a strong, recognizable brand presence in the market.
